TALIBAN EXTREMIST COMMANDER CAPTURED IN JOINT SOTG OPERATION. Defence spokesperson Brigadier Brian Dawson said the Taliban commander was responsible for ordering and coordinating suicide bombers throughout the province. Under an agreement between the Dutch and Afghan Governments, Mullah Saqi Dad is now being detained by Afghan authorities.

The Minister for Trade, Simon Crean, will visit Malaysia from 6 8 October to attend the 14th Australia-Malaysia Joint Trade Committee meeting with his Malaysian counterpart, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tan Sri Dato Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin.. This is my first visit to Malaysia as Minister for Trade.I am very keen to explore ways to expand trade and investment ties with Malaysia, which is Australias third largest trading partner in South East Asia, Mr Crean said.. Following the agreement by Prime Minister Rudd and Prime Minister Abdullah on 10 July to invigorate bilateral FTA discussions I will discuss the Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement negotiations with Minister Muhyiddin. .

More separated parents are tackling the challenges of separation with a positive outlook, according to new research released by the Minister for Human Services, Senator Joe Ludwig, to mark Mental Health Week (Oct 5-11). In the survey, 52 per cent of receiving parents and 40 per cent of paying parents said despite the challenges, post-separation parenting is a positive experience.

CASA suspends Far North Queensland airline
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority suspended the operations of Cairns-based airline Lip Air Pty Ltd on Friday 3 October 2008. CASA has been looking closely into safety problems at Lip Air since September 2007. On 27 June 2008, CASA suspended Lip Air's air operator's certificate.
